the best laid plan...

last night didn't go as expected.  The record player sucked.  I was quite upset.  I ordered a different one and it is on its way.  I also set up the return on the other one.  Today was also different than I planned.  Unfortunately it wasn't a super productive day like I hoped for.  But no worries, I did get some things accomplished and I did get tons of exercise.

Ok. So my gorgeous periodic table magnets are finished.  Well they have been finished for a while.  I also have my first order!!!   It's from my cousin so it doesn't totally count.  But i'm pretty psyched about it.

I also am attempting a periodic table in another medium, that I now have just a smidgen of experience in: Shrinky Dinks.  I missed out on working in this medium as a child (seriously, I missed out on so many "normal" childhood experiences and lessons)  I also never had finger paints or a tree house or a tire swing.  I'm still pretty mad about that tree house.

Well, anyways, I gained some valuable knowledge.  I need to use the lighter colored sharpies.  Some turned out just too dark.  I was going to rectify that issue by using a silver paint pen but I forgot to pick it up at the store just now.  I maybe have a silver sharpie somewhere in the house.  I can't wait until i can move into a two bedroom place and have my very own studio for all of my creative endeavors.

I got locked out of the house yet again, which is super annoying.  don't say you will be home if you aren't going to be.

I went to the hardware store.  Got some new tools for working on my designs.

Went to Walmart and got some nice ideas for products and supplies.  Also got shampoo and hair dye.  Just a bit darker than my natural color.  I just want my color to be glossier so this should be perfect.  Its a new brand that i haven't tried yet.

Now i'm laying on my bed, watching reruns and writing this post.  Not listening to records :(

But maybe soon :) i work tomorrow, but then i have 3 days off before the big meeting. i'm scared/excited.  not sure what is all involved or if i will be pulled from the meeting frequently for admissions.  hopefully it goes well and my brain can focus on the task at hand rather than daydreaming about ninjas and duct tape - no lies i seriously spent 8 hours or so thinking about ninjas and duct tape this week.  Work needs to pick up soon.

now i'm going to watch a movie and start sketching out/planning designs for my next few magnet sets including a semi-sassy one inspired by my sister's new boyfriend.  she will think its funny, he will either be mad or sad lol.

Snaps for me

Much to blog about today.  Random, boring you name it I've got it.

Yesterday I did get up early and head to the grocery store.  Then I whipped up the aforementioned casserole (no onions though--the downside of living with others when they use the last onion and don't put it on the shopping list or purchase more).  I also completed a goal off my list: Make home made marshmallows.  What a sticky fun mess.  The recipe posted at The Kitchn is actually a post about making a half batch of marshmallows.  They link to this recipe  Fluffy Vanilla Marshmallows   Half a batch? Pure genius!  I never think of this when attempting a new recipe. I enjoyed it.  They taste delicious and they were so fun to make.  As far as the recipe goes, they say that a hand mixer doesn't have enough power to make these.  My stand mixer is older than me (seriously at least 10 years older than me) and I have a decent hand mixer.  So I used my hand mixer.  It definitely had enough power, however if you do have a stand mixer, it may be a little easier for you.  And when they say cover the bowl with a towel....you absolutely have to. That batter will spray like crazy.  My best advice for this project is to prep all your ingredients before you start (pre-measure them so you only have to pour them in), have all of your equipment within reach.  Also fill up your sink with hot soapy water.  All of your tool, bowls, spatulas, etc will be incredibly sticky.  It all washes up very nicely including the towel.  I barely needed to scrub anything at all.   I didn't even need to scrub the towel, i just soaked it for 5 minutes then wrung it out.  I let it air dry and threw it by the washer for my next load of towels.

Last night, I also made a super awesome poster for tonight.  Oh i guess I forgot to mention that.  My sister and I are going to see WWE Smackdown tonight!  promise I will post pictures of the awesome poster as soon as my technical difficulties clear up.

I also took the time to make my delicious lunch.  Dinosaur shaped chicken nuggets and some salsa.  whoohoo.  not to exciting, but it was yummy.

As far as the periodic table magnets go:  I have all necessary supplies except those darn scrabble tiles.  I bought them on Ebay, and they should be getting here any day.  I'm getting impatient so I may run to Goodwill on Saturday to see if they have any old Scrabble games for sale.  I plan to make additional sets and put them up for sale when I get my Etsy store opened at some point this summer. hmmm...what to do, what to do?

Sorry these showed up out of order.  These turned out so yummy.  But i definitely need to make these again.  I'm already pondering potential colors and flavors.

GGGRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

***A big thank you to Andy Cohen from BravoTV's Watch What Happens Live, for without him I would not possess the necessary vocabulary for the following post***

What a bunch of jackholes!!! I live a mere 4 blocks from my place of employment and I was nearly killed 6 times on my walk home.  People are out nearly rioting because the dumb Packers won the super bowl.  OMFG!  I walk through residential neighborhoods.  On quiet streets.  People are out driving drunk, speeding like demons, and being genuine JACKHOLES!   I swear to god there is a special place in hell for these psychos.  I also saw 3 people vomit on the way home.  That was icing on the flipping cake.

ugg.  Today was a pretty good day aside from that.  I did a good deed.  Helped some crazy lady get her soda unstuck from the vending machines.  Bruised my hand in the process.  And I had six patients.  And I just fixed a lovely dinner of Swedish meatballs.

I feel better now that I've vented.

grrrr at myself

I'm off to a wretched start with this project.  well all i can do is try again.  the last couple months have been chaotic and just plain discouraging.  But now back to this project.  I swear I will learn and accomplish a minimum of 5 things in 2011.  Currently on my to do list:
1- periodic table magnet sets - the supplies are mostly in the mail.  but i will get my booty out of bed tomorrow       and pick up the remaining supplies at Michael's.  And i will start (probably not finish) next weekend.  and it has to be finished on or before February 19th.  Two full periodic tables made from paint, glue, magnets and scrabble tiles.  Maybe a sharpie as well.

2- new recipe that i created by researching breakfast casseroles including tater tots.  main inspiration comes from  this post at Savory Sweet Life .  I then catered it to my own tastes.  I will be whipping it up Monday and baking and eating it on Tuesday.

3- cleaning up my rss reader (i absolutely adore Google reader) I currently have 250+ subscription which is far to many to read.  I will work at weeding out the boring/dead blogs and will put up a blogroll of the ones I cannot wait to read each day once I have finished.

well this is all for now.  I have loads of paperwork to finish up and will return once i'm on a decent wifi network.

hugs, Jenn

Hello there readers :)

Ideally my plan with this blog is to keep a record of my new experiences.  I strive to learn new things regardless of whether or not they will be useful to me at any point in time.  Sure it's nice to be able to use the skills I intend to develop.  But I'm all about randomness and kitchiness. If you don't already know me, it might help to have some background info.  I'm not like other people for the most part.  I don't share their priorities.  I adore the unlovable.  The runts.  I like who I am and enjoy an eclectic mix of hobbies and things.  I recently read about St Rita, the patron saint of lost and impossible causes.  That's pretty much exactly my modus operandi.  As a result, I tend to get hurt by other people who seem to think that i'm dumb or clueless.  I can be quite flighty and frequently miss some pretty obvious things.  But I am me.  I believe strongly that people should be free to be who they are as long as they aren't infringing on other people's rights to do the same. As of right now, I am in the awkward phase where I am not an adult but i'm no longer a child.  This project will hopefully help me to strike the right balance between mature and immature.  To be perfectly honest, it is unlikely that I will ever be 100% grown up.  That's definitely not something I strive for either.  I enjoy my whimsical albeit naive outlook on life, but I also can become quite moody.  Here is to the possibility of a more consistent, cohesive life and to never truly growing old.  A favorite quote sums up my new motto:

"Let us toast to animal pleasures, to escapism, to rain on the roof and instant coffee, to unemployment insurance and library cards, to absinthe and good-hearted landlords, to music and warm bodies and contraceptives...and to the "good life," whatever it is and wherever it happens to be."
    --- Hunter S. Thompson

I'm eager to start seeking out the good life.  The simple pleasures are what i'm all about.  I'm pondering what my first goals should be.  I'm considering several mini projects.  Tomorrow I will determine a short list to get me started on my mission.  Good night all.  Sweet dreams.
